Wisconsin Protests 2011 Photos, Video: Protesters Take To Madison
Protests have taken place in the Wisconsin state capitol of Madison.
The 2011 Wisconsin protests consist largely of crowds of public workers voicing their opposition to Republican Gov. Scott Walker's plan to make them pay for their health insurance and pension benefits. The Republican governor has said that he made the decision came out of a need to address the state's budget crisis.
It has been estimated that approximately 10,000 people were in attendance for the Wisconsin protests, although some estimate the actual number of protesters is much higher.
The Wisconsin protests have caused several Wisconsin school closures.
It's possible that the cuts that caused the Wisconsin protests could spread to other states as politicians around the country face budget shortfalls. Some see the Wisconsin protests as a something that could impact the entire nation.
“I think it’s quite possible that if they’re successful in doing this, a lot of other Republican governors will emulate this,” Mr. Gould added.
