Two weeks ago, the Cyberculture News did a Vague column entitled,  Genius is Beyond the Facade of Reality in which we pointed out how the Republican Party has been manipulating the news industry.  Well, the mass media has finally recognized the GOP's strategy for using the news media industry to their advantage.

McCain campaign systematically targets the news media - 09/14/2008 - MiamiHerald.com

Ever since McCain chose the largely unknown Palin as his running mate, his campaign has waged an intensive assault on the news media.

Capitalizing on errors, rumors and perceived sexism in the frenzied first round of reporting on Palin, the McCain campaign has taken advantage of a changing media landscape, grouping together blogs and supermarket tabloids with mainstream newspapers and television to tar the media as one corrupt monolith, stirring up the conservative base and working to pressure the media from further aggressive reporting on Palin.

The Sarah Palin Phenomenon Is Doomed, MarketWatch Columnist Jon Friedman Warns The Media Live To Build You Up, Then Knock You Down - CBS News

The media aren't the bad guys in the Palin discussion. It's easy to accuse us of acting like sexists or big-city egomaniacs. Let's be real, though. McCain selected Palin for exactly those reasons - because she is a woman from a little-known state, who can take some of the heat off McCain and behave like an attack dog against Barack Obama. So far, the Republicans' plan has worked to perfection, as Palin has dominated the political discourse over the past few weeks.

Alas, let's face it.  The media beast has been snared by a woman.   Due to the competitive nature of the news reporting industry, the mass media is trapped in it's own unending desire for newsworthy content.  The seed that McCain planted when he announced Sarah Palin as his running mate has bloomed into a cyclical phenomena from which the news industry can not escape.
