SINGAPORE - The Workers' Party announced today it will field Mr Png Eng Huat as its candidate for the single-seat ward of Hougang in the by-election.
Workers' Party Secretary-General Low Thia Khiang introduced Mr Png, 50, at a media conference this afternoon, telling the media the party will fight the election to the best of its ability.
Mr Png has been tipped to be the WP's candidate, after former WP Member of Parliament Yaw Shin Leong was sacked from the party for not answering to allegations of extramarital affairs.
Mr Low described Mr Png Eng Huat, a businessman, as mature and the "right candidate" for the by-election.
Having known Mr Png Eng Huat before the 2006 General Election, and having observed the way he works for some time, Mr Low said he is confident that Mr Png Eng Huat is a person of integrity.
Mr Png Eng Huat, who was the WP candidate for East Coast GRC in the 2011 General Election, is sincere in serving the people, added Mr Low.READ FULL STORY HERE
