World leaders have started gathering for the G20 Summit in Washington DC this weekend, in their latest attempt to solve the global financial crisis

The summit will look at developing long-term ideas to deal with the global financial crisis before the world descends more into a recession.

See a companion article about Fred Harrison's views.

Leaders from the G20, comprising the world's leading nations plus key emerging economies such as Brazil, India and China, are to meet over dinner on Friday evening before holding several meetings on Saturday.

Al Jazeera's Nick Spicer in Washington said it may be difficult for the G20 to forge agreements when the US and Europe, not to mention countries such as Brazil and India, have opposing views on regulation and how to deal with the crisis.

"It is hard to come up with a consensus with a lame-duck president in office
who cannot sign off on a new world financial architecture for the American people when he is soon to leave," he said.

The G20 meet comes after George Bush, the US president, defended free-market principles in a speech in New York on Thursday and said further summits would be needed to overcome the crisis.

All leaders meeting this weekend want to address the current financial crisis and to think of some concrete ideas that could really help all struggling nations.
It is also important to understand the cause of the crisis, but not get too wrapped up in economies that are going to fail anyway, such as some of the car manufacturers, and focus instead on the bigger picture.
This weekend is going to hopefully provide a lot of insight into the current worldwide economic crisis.

Today Moscow and Brussels EU decided in the morning at Nice for a second meeting with Obama. Bush has no trouble now. Probably no results to expect the last days.

Good Story Amy!  I too am trying to track the news on this topic!  I am somewhat happy to see that it's now the G-20 instead of the G-8!

Ok, they ended with some deal, but nothing good. No plan.

We have to wait till Barack Obama is in the Oval Office at the White House
