It is clear that the world is like a ball in shape but it is also like a ball in behaviour. It is like a ball put on a smooth floor when one touches it difficult to know where it moves. Especially nowadays where dynamism, complexity, volatility and change are the norms, one cannot predict the direction where the world moves.

Imagine how Obama spent a significant portion of his time dealing with the gulf oil spill which he has never thought happens! Imagine how customer behaviour become so delicate and difficult to manage and how marketing become seduction! Is not a real fact that businessmen visited by partners invite the visitor with ladies or even their sisters for sex to attract the partner? Believe me, this is the situation today.

It is true that when there is a relative economic and social stability, brilliant politicians, businessmen and others may forecast good and ascertain the uncertain. But nowadays, it has become very difficult to forecast and go as planned. Thanks to scholars, however, they declared that planned strategy is no more useful and advised to deal with emergent strategy due to the uncertain behaviour of the world.

News should be timely (the last 72 hours), relevant to a significant number of people, and unusual, interesting and have significant repercussions. Bear in mind the impact of your story. Does it affect a lot of people or a limited few? Does it have emotional appeal? The prominence of any people featured in your story also comes into play; if the subject is a well-known public figure, your story has the potential to get a lot of attention.

So, what we're looking for at NowPublic is:

  • authentic and tightly-focused pieces that tell a relevant story
  • news that offers concrete information of wide interest
  • research in context that it is well-balanced, objective, and specific
  • content that adds something to the public discussion rather than recycled ideas
  • facts citing solid and verifiable sources rather than opinion
  • 250-600 words that the world both needs and wants.

News at NowPublic

Think about your own surf habits and how impatiently you skip from one page to another until you find what you're looking for, ie. articles that are entertaining, relevant, and true. Keep it fresh and useful and put the material out there and trust sophisticated readers to glean what’s relevant to them without overstating your own perspective.

Don't make them take your word for it - give them a reputable reference and resource to supplement what you’ve said (we don't mean Wikipedia) and don’t back into the article – write a strong, tight lead, build your progression of facts logically, and end with authority.
If you are highlighting external sources within your story, be sure to include your own original commentary or introduction. Writing in your own words is what really makes your contributions valuable.

Jim, I understand what you mean. My pieces are not news. They are opinions for debate and opinions are the interesting part of whether electronic or press media anywhere.

What is the use of bringing News Pieces from other media like BBC, CNN, The Economist, etc to the NowPublic? Cannot one see those news on the media originally announced? I dont think would it be interesting bringing news pieces from other media to the NowPublic. We have to make the NowPublic strategically different from other media bringing point of view debates, issues, opinions, scenarios, etc, that are learning and shape our world rather than talking on events already launched on other media! I think so!!

I enjoy you thoughtfulness and topics. The point is that you need to link them to reference material. Those are the rules.

I could write new material all day, but NowPublic editors would crush it because it must be referenced.
