World Pledges Support To Tibet Olympics:15 - 25 May 2008
In reply to Beijing Olympics the Tibetan community has come out with this novel idea of Tibet Olympics 2008. It will be an event for Young Tibetans to celebrate the spirit of Olympics.
The Games will be organized at Dharamshala where the Tibetan Government in exile is based.
The chief organizer of this event is Lobsang Wangyal who runs a production house with same name.
The contributors like Ruth Nielsen,Carol Heywood Babrakaus,Washington State Washington State, Namgyal Tenzin New York and Nicolos Villain France to name few support him.
The event was announced earlierat a press conference in McLeod Ganj on 15 May 2007.
In telephonic conversation, when I enquired about the purpose of the games. Lobsang replied,"Its purpose is to ensure that Tibetans could also celebrate the excitement of world's biggest sporting event Beijing Olympics He further stated that the support for the game is overwhelming.
While talking about the event he also added that the event will have two cateogaries- Tibetan and an International, each having two championships - Men and Women.
Fifteen participants, taken on a first-in basis, will be competing in each championship. Every participant must take part in ten different sports, which will include long-distance running, swimming, shooting, archery, and track and field events. When enquired whether he had support of Governmet In exile his anwer was that he is not aware of any such support.
However the sports should not be part of any politics as this will be a regular feature in years to come. It will not as near as Beijing Olympic but this event does make a political Statement of the seprate nation feeling among the Tibetan youth.

Is this really happening?
Also, the url you linked to doesn't work.
Please fix these things, maybe add some commentary and context as well as a news link and I'll remove this flag.
Thanks!
