World War Against Terror - Taliban enemy #1
Can't make peace with criminals, must do away with them
You can't make peace with tyrannical dictators. You can't make peace with terrorists. Both fall into the classification of criminals, and when their acts of criminality involve murder, the only response is to seek them out and to eliminate them.
History has taught us this lesson, time and again. Peace loving people exhaust their means to achieve a non-violent solution, but in the end, with some people and their beliefs, the end should be sooner than later.
Taliban has exhausted the free people's patience, and so has Iran, and North Korea. Nation states that harbor them are soon to be added to the list if they are not already on it.
Afghanistan leaders and Pakistan leaders must come to grips with the fact, not all Muslims are terrorists and violent people. Most want to go about their freedom loving business in their own way. It is the violent Islamic terrorists that are everyone's enemy and now let's work together to get rid of them completely,
“Afghanistan explosion 'kills dozens' in Kandahar
The explosion went off in the middle of a wedding party
An explosion in Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan has killed at least 39 people, Afghan officials say.
Reports said the blast ripped through a wedding party on Wednesday evening, leaving another 70 more wounded.
It is unclear what caused the blast or why the wedding was targeted. No-one has yet said they planted a device.
Last week, Afghanistan held a national peace council and endorsed a plan to seek peace with the Taliban. But violence has continued unabated.”

Taliban shoot down NATO chopper, 4 US soldiers killed
KABUL: Taliban shot down a NATO helicopter in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, killing four US soldiers and bringing to 23 the number of foreign troops killed in escalating violence so far this week.
The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) helicopter came down in Helmand province.
“Four ISAF service members were killed in the crash,” a military spokesman said. “The helicopter was brought down by hostile fire.”

Talibans are terrorists, enemy #1 is simplification of a grave problem we all are confronting. How to eliminate terrorism is a trillion $ question?Who are the people basically responsible for widespread terrorism, how to deal with them? These are the questions which are in a quest of satisfactory answers.
Imprisonment, torture of the suspected terrorists under trial every where has failed.Drone attacks have failed.Armed intervention, totally unjustified, has miserably failed.War on terror has yeilded opposite results. What choices we are left with?
Has any one of us bothered to diagnose the symptoms of this epidemic?Conduct of politicians has never been above suspicion.Voice of civil sociaety has been throttled.Intellectual, academics, human right and peace activists have been marginalised by war mongering media.Wrong diagnosis can never help cure.War on terror is a cure which is worse than disease.
Why are Nato troops not withdrawn? If US administration wants Vietnam repeated, let them continue war on terror, which is begetting more terrorists-an asset to neo-empire.And which classification those who make friends with dictators and seek help of terrorists to keep them in power fall into?

You have caught me in my trap -- If we are going to be in Afghanistan to fight the Taliban as they have proven to be a brutal lot against their own people, then the USA and allies have to muster the economic will and military might to do so. As I have reported, IMO, a bankrupt USA does not have the capacity to accomplish this, and nation building should not be our business.
The problem with walking away is that the Taliban will become more emboldened to return to power in Afghanistan and spread their control into Pakistan where they already have a foothold. Taliban has transformed into enemy #1 in that region.
As you point out, carpet bombing a civilization, taking out the enemy and innocent people is not feasible as we tried that in Vietnam. We walked from Vietnam and today, we are trading and working with our former enemies.
There is nothing worth fighting for in Afghanistan. If the Afghan people can't muster their own will for freedom from tyranny, so be it. If the Taliban join Iran and other rogue states as enemies of the USA, they become a bigger and more unforgiving target for our wrath, should they continue to provoke us and our allies.
When the oil is no longer needed, all will be left to pound sand.

YJ.You represent one viewpoint and that is logical. But stay of Nato troops in Afghanistan, mounting civil casualities are pushing larger section of the population into Taliban's camp.Drone attacks have not weakened Talibans,on the contarary have helped them enlarge their base.Nato troops are on the horns of a dilemma.Leaving Afghanistan or staying in Afghanistan both are in the interests of Taliban but leaving is in the larger interests of US.Anti-Americanism is going to stay as long as US doesn't change its foreign policy.

We presume a lot of cave dwellers, half a world away. The news stories I read about the "war" in Afghanistan are carbon copies of the war in Viet Nam.
