World War II Bomb Video: Huge Blast in Munich
Controlled Detonation of WWII Bomb in Munich, Germany: Massive Explosion Caught on Video
A bomb disposal crew was unable to defuse a World War II-era bomb discovered in Munich, so they had no choice but to carry out a controlled detonation.
The 550lb bomb was found buried in the Munich city centre as a construction team demolished an old bar. 3,000 nearby residents were evacuated before the bomb was detonated. The explosion broke windows and set nearby rooftops on fire. Below you can see the spectacular video from the Munich bomb blast.
The bomb, of a type used by the US Air Force, had a chemical fuse, which made safely disarming it impossible. Munich officials reckon there are 2,500 similar bombs still buried throughout the city.
Tens of thousands of unexploded bombs are estimated to be scattered throughout Germany. Cambodia has it even worse.
