As part of the Guinness World Records Day yesterday, the world's tallest dog was named. Titan is a four-year-old white Great Dane and is now in the Guinness Book of Records.

Titan has some health problems though as he is so tall; he is 42.25 inches tall from floor to shoulder and weighs 190 pounds.

Titan is blind, deaf, epileptic and undergoes acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments every three weeks, owner Diana Taylor said.

Great Danes are known for having spinal issues, but Taylor says that with treatment and medication Titan is doing better and hasn't had a seizure in over a year.

The previous tallest dog was Gibson, a seven-year-old harlequin Great Dane from California, who died earlier this year from bone cancer - he was 42.2 inches tall.

As Titan is blind, Taylor communicates with him through touch and they always stay close by each other.

She also has another Great Dane named Ari, who is also deaf and stands 38 inches tall herself. She weighs 160 pounds, and her other dog, a German Shepherd named Diego, weighs 125 pounds.

Taylor and her dogs do a lot of charity work and events and she says that she hopes Titan can teach people about Great Danes.

"Titan is magical," she added. "He's low-key, calm and has a wonderful demeanor about him. He gets along with all dogs, even the tiny ones ... He's also great to travel with. We've gone across the country twice."

Taylor wants to start a project for victims of disasters so that they know where they can stay with their pets after an event, as most shelters don't take animals. She hopes Titan will help bring awareness to that.

I just want to commend Diana Taylor for adopting rescue dogs. We do the same here in British Columbia for Boston Terriers. Great Danes are a very special breed - their lifespan is short and those who make them comfortable and happy deserve praise :-)) - as do all who adopt any rescue dog. Our latest BT is only 3 years old, so we have her for many years yet. We're happy about that!
