Wyclef Jean Talks Haiti Shooting
Keeping a positive mindset after being shot in the hand in Haiti last week, Wyclef Jean recently opened up about the terrifying incident.
Of the happening, the "Gone Til November" singer told, "It was definitely a graze. The bullet didn't go in or anything. There's a lot to the story."
He went on to explain that the wound was painful, "but it was more like shock and awe. They put in the anesthesia and stuff. The pain came after all that."
Seeing the positive in it, Wyclef added, "It brought light to the fact that there was an election going on that day. I don't think none of you all knew about an election in Haiti until everyone heard what happened to me."
He's always been a huge proponent in bettering the living conditions in Haiti, and the Fugees rapper was out campaigning for Haitian presidential candidate Michel Martelly when the incident occurred.
Wyclef articulated, "The way I can explain it is that the bullet grazed me in my right hand. I heard blow, blow, blow and I just looked at my hand."
Insiders tell that Jean's car had come under attack and was peppered with bullets as he was being driven through the city of Port-au-Prince with hip-hop pal Busta Rhymes and record executive Jimmy Rosemond.
Confirming the shooting via a post on Twitter, Wyclef's representatives wrote, "We have spoken to Wyclef, he is ok. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers - Management."
The news of Jean's shooting came hours after exiled former Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide arrived in the country earlier that day.
His family has since spoken out about the situation. "You can wound a man, but you can not stop a revolution," Wyclef's sister Melky Jean told MTV News on Sunday. "I pray for a peaceful election day. I pray that democracy is restored in Haiti, and there is an end to the violence and suffering."
