Yahoo's "Values" [UPDATED]
Yahoo has a page that covers everything, except contacting them or seeking managerial responsibility. Yet, this faceless corporate entity has the audacity to pretend to be everything they stand against.
They have two pages about "Yahoo values." One page of things they value and one page of things they don't value.
Here's a selection of things they do not value that sums up Flickr rather nicely: (NOTE that items in parentheses are MY own comments)
"What we [yahoo] don't value...
- Bureaucracy
- Entitlement (flickr staff...)
- Broken links
- Too big for your britches
- Closed doors (communications with flickr)
- Good enough (flickr solutions to problems)
- Same ol' same ol' (ignoring users legitimate complaints)
- Arrogance (flickr staff...)
- 20/20 hindsight (if you're lucky)
- A stick in the eye (flickr staff...)
- Fads (the move from artistic photo sharing to "things we want to see on our site")
- Discrimination (flickr staff...)
- Swashbuckling (pirates like sewell or the flickr staff deletions of accounts)
- Status quo (1.75 months of emails and no response)
- A cog in the wheel (me)
- Missing the boat (flickr staff...)
- Formality (flickr staff & Yahoo...)
- Behind the curve (flickr staff...)
- Head in the sand (flickr staff, yahoo management...)
- Irrelevance (the so-called explanations for my account deletions)
- Following (flickr staff...)
- Sloth (flickr staff...)
- Bad apples (flickr staff...)
- High horses (flickr staff...)
- Impossible (flickr staff and yahoo communication...)
- Quick fix (flickr and yahoo staff...)
- One size fits all (flickr and yahoo...)
- Passing the buck (flickr staff and yahoo staff...)
- Micromanaging (flickr staff...)
- Hurry up & wait (flickr email support...)
- Monday morning quarterback (flickr staff)
- Punching the clock (flickr staff...)
They even added this:
"Copyright © 2004 Yahoo! Inc. All rights reserved."
All of these words (i removed some) pretty much describe the behavior i've been subjected to at flickr [and now Yahoo]. Yahoo has no intention of offering any communication method to complain about flickr. you know why? THEY OWN flickr but they don't TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for flickr.
i got to the flickr [ignored] email forms by way of clicking on a Yahoo report abuse link. (hense the " I'm reporting abuse on the following page: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/abuse/" thingy)
Where do i report abuse BY flickr?
Where do i report abuse BY Yahoo?
Here, it seems.
Fat load of good that does anyone.

There are Yahoo abuse addresses all over the place.
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/groups/abuse.html For groups abuse.
Here's the "Report Abuse" url at flickr....
I'm not even a member of flickr and I found it. Would you like me to write your
complaint for you too?

it's not as easy as you appear to suggest or think. ever been blacklisted before by a company or workplace? when they hold all the cards, outsiders see just a complaining whiner while the truth goes much deeper.
you could try sending a complaint for me... thank you for offering. it would be interesting to see what the response is. i would expect some combination of:
1. Blame: he broke the rules. Our rules are stated in our Terms Of Use agreement (then you can compare my story to their terms of service, remembering that prior to dave sewell's involvement, my account had been REVIEWED BY STAFF and MARKED AS SAFE. The second account was deleted within a DAY. It's content was straight from my original account and was moderated so that it would not be seen unless a person turned off "Safe Search" which is ON by DEFAULT for EVERY user.)
2. Excuse: we don't talk about our users as a matter of privacy (which is crap; they don't talk to ME about MY account).
3. Avoidance: no response at all.
The link i clicked on to complain about abuse WAS a yahoo link and it just dumped me at flickr, where i've sent many a complaint to which i've received ZERO responses. i wouldn't be making all of this public if it were just a little misunderstanding and frustration. Money exchanged. A service was paid for. They terminated that service under dubious claims (instigated by dave sewell's uninvited harassment) and no money was returned. They still owe me up until June 2008, FROM September 7 2007.
i'm beyond frustrated. i've reported them to the BBB in attempt to at least get my payment refunded, but it goes way deeper than just the money.
Show me a place to complain to Yahoo management about Flickr staff. THAT would be something new. i have sent complaints to PR @ yahoo and had no response. i've sent messages directly to Stewart Butterfield with no response. i've posted an open letter (like others have done) in the forums and found it deleted within 10 minutes and myself BLOCKED from the forums.
This is a perfect example of how a faceless corporate entity can get away with whatever behavior it wants because it makes up the rules and changes them as needed, when needed, to accomplish whatever they see fits their personal agendas.
Please do see my other flickr stories. visit my blog (though i have lost all restraint on my blog, so be prepared for unprofessional ranting with profanity and excessive emotional outlet). Get the WHOLE story. i invite everyone to get the WHOLE STORY.

Quite a rant. I wrote Flickr with a question; I got an auto-reply almost immediately. Then a staff member contacted me within 24 hours; my question was fully answered.

yes, it is. see my other flickr postings to see why it has become this way.
you got a response because they're not targeting you or blacklisting you.
see my response above...
