Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Gabriella Montero and Anthony McGill played a lovely original song for new President Barack Obama on his Inauguration Day, however it has now been revealed that what most of the people were hearing was a recording made in advance by the four musicians, as officials said that it was feared the cold weather could have affected their live performance.
The four played along with a recording as really cold weather can damage instruments. Only the people right beside the four would have been able to hear them play.
Carole Florman, a spokeswoman for the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, said that the four musicians who played John Williams' „Air and Simple Gifts,” had insisted on performing live until they had all realized that it would have been too cold to pull that off.
Organizers said that no one tried to decieve anyone, even though they did not announce beforehand that a recording would be playing.
All other musical events were live.
