Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has sent a letter to House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Agung Laksono asking for a clarification about why the House had rejected his two canidates for Bank Indonesia (BI) governor -- Agus Martowardojo and Raden Pardede.
"On Sunday afternoon, the president sent a letter to the House speaker in reply the latter`s letter (informing the President the House had rejected his candidates) in which he asked for a clarification about why the House had turned them) the candidates down," presidential spokesman Andi Malarangeng said here on Monday.
In his letter, the president had said he could accept the House`s decision to reject the two candidates and would propose two other names but he also wanted to know the House`s reasons for disapproving of Agus Martowardojo and Raden Pardede.
"The president will in principle put forward new candidates but he will wait for the clarification from the DPR on why none of the first two candidates was found good enough," Andi said.
He added Yudhoyono needed the clarification in order to know what the DPR really expected from candidates for BI governor.
Andi said House Speaker Agung Laksono`s letter to the president on Friday only contained notification on the House`s rejection of the two candidates but no clarification of the reasons for the decision. (*) end
