Jambi, June 29 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said the activities of integrated public health service clinics (Posyandu) and empowerment of family welfare (PKK) whose activities were slowing down early in the reforms era, should be reactivated.

According to the president, the two activities proposed during the new order era had produced benefits to families especially those living in isolated and remote areas.

"For that purpose, we have to reactivate these activities, as people living in isolated and remote villages will be able to enjoy the benefits of their life," the head of state said in his address commemorating the 15th national family planning day in East Tanjung Jabung district, Jambi, on Sunday.

The president also reminded of the importance of the small but prosperous family program.

"We are going to build small but prosperous families. Let us really try to reach this goal," he said.

If the growth of the population could be well-managed, the president said economic growth will be better and excessive exploitation of natural resources could be prevented.

"That`s the reason why we have to reactivate the family planning program which will produce small but prosperous families," he said.

The head of state also called on the Indonesian people to maintain mutual assistance which had made this world largest archipelagic country wellknown with its principle of brotherhood.  end  (*)
