Elisa Baker Indicted in Zahra Baker Murder

Elisa Baker was indicted for second-degree murder in the case of Zahra Claire Baker, the disabled 10-year-old girl whose body was found in pieces on November 11, 2010. Elise Baker is already in jail on obstruction of justice charges, having admitted to writing a fake ransom note. The indictment notes that Elisa Baker had a history of abusing Zahra, both verbally and physically.

Elisa Baker had told police that her husband, Adam Baker, had helped her dismember Zahra's body, a claim which Adam Baker denies. Adam Baker has not been indicted. Adam Baker is a native of Australia, where Zahra Baker's birth mother still lives. THe couple separated shortly after Zahra was born, and Adam moved to the US with his daughter in 2008, having met Elisa on the Internet.

Zahra Baker suffered from bone cancer, and wore a prosthetic leg following an amputation, and was deaf in both ears. That prosthetic leg was the first of her remains to be found.
