This was just a publicity stunt by Zelaya,

nothing more.  A photo op for the

international reporters who favor him.

It did no good, did not advance his cause

but it did lead to headlines in the leftist press

about his brave return in keeping his promise,

yet these failed to mention he left after a few minutes.

.

"Ousted Honduras President Manuel Zelaya crossed the Nicaragua border and took a few steps into his homeland on Friday, defying the orders of the ruling government that overthrew him a month ago.

Wearing his trademark white cowboy hat, he only stayed in Honduras briefly, as Honduras officials had vowed to arrest him if he dared return.

"I am not afraid, but I'm not crazy, either," Zelaya told the swarm of reporters who gathered to watch him make the symbolic gesture. "

Ousted President Manuel Zelaya took a symbolic step into his homeland Friday, vowing to reclaim his post a month after soldiers flew him into exile.

But he stayed less than 30 minutes before returning to Nicaragua, saying the risk of bloodshed was too great. He said he would give talks with the coup-installed government another try.

Zelaya's brief return was a stunt

and it changes nothing.  The new

government still rules Honduras and

is supported by the army and the

supreme court and most of the

people. Zelaya was removed by

order of the supreme court for his

illegal attempt to change the Honduras

constitution. What is needed in Honduras

is a compromise, bringing in a third party

to be presiudent for 5 months.
