With a media more intrigued by Tiger Woods than the massacre at the Marange diamond mines and a southern African developement community more concerned with Zimbabwe as a South Africa World Cup distraction than a nation in turmoil; with a coalition government seemingly fragmented by the exploits of the unjust & corrupt and an inept, lackluster opposition that seems somewhat outplayed & hoodwinked by their foes, one has to wonder and sincerely contemplate where Zimbabwe truly is and put that moment of reflection in contrast with what the Kool-Aid drinkers insist; one has to lift the veil and tame their expectations as they consider what may or may not unfold in the build up to the 2011 President elections as the Unity government expires.
There is a reason why Zimbabweans continue their exodus into South Africa and a reason why Human Rights organizations still house victims of political violence in secret corners of Zimbabwe. There is a reason why no tangible developments have happened in Zimbabwe with regards to constitutional reform and a reason why Econet wireless CEO Strive Masiyiwa refuses to go home. There is a reason why a UN torture investigator was denied entry into Zimbabwe despite being invited by Morgan Tsvangirai and a reason for many more things that some of us are oblivious to or choose to ignore.
Much like in the case of Iraq, Afghanistan and Sudan, my realization tells me this, what the Powers That Be prescribed for Zimbabwe was nothing more than a Political Placebo, a concoction of false hope and impractical compromises meant to simply 'hush' us and create the elusion of an end to injustice, an end to suffering and a return to civil decency. because sadly, those who have never suffered vicious injustice are always the first to ask a people to forgive and those that have committed these injustices are always the first to insist on turning over a new leaf.
Forgiveness is a must but along with that request must come a genuine restoration, visible implementation, uncomprising commitment and unwavering adherence to Justice and freedoms for all.
sincerely yours,
Kwapi
