While the world is reeling from the financial crisis, Zimbabwe has been on the back burner. At the present time, it appears that the National Unity Government is falling apart. Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangerai announced on October 16,2009 that he was withdrawing from the power sharing agreement secondary to a "lack of faith" in Mugabe and his ZANU-PF Government.

Mr. Tsvangerai has also asked for intervention from the SADC [Southern African Development Community] with regard to the differences between the two parties. He is meeting with Mozambican President Armando Guebuza, Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila, Angolan President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos, and South African President Jacob Zuma to see if Mr. Mugabe is willing to comply with his part of the power sharing agreement.

It is hoped that there is some resolution to this festering problem
