Zimbabwe Power Sharing Talk Breaks Down

According to latest reports from the BBC, the SADC [Southern Africa Development Community] Talks aimed at resolving the situation in Zimbabwe has broken down. Both sides claimed irreconcilable differences while the UN insisted that there should be talks. The SADC has stated that "there will be an agreement".

What started as an election in 2008 has metamorphed into a crisis without a resolution. The people of Zimbabwe are the ones who suffer secondary to the hyperinflation which has made stores accept US Dollars only. The people of Zimbabwe are the ones who are paying the price when it comes to education, health care, and life in general.

The apple of discord appears to be control of the military which is coveted by the MDC and ZANU-PF. It is impossible for both sides to come into agreement when there has been so much hatred and division. Botswana and the MDC has even asked for fresh elections. Again, I ask for peace and reconciliation in Zimbabwe. Whether it will happen remains to be seen.
