Zimbabwe’s elections were in March, it’s now November; is there a regime change? No functional one; has there been a practical & productive plan for Zimbabwe's recovery presented since the signing of the “Mbeki Deal”? No plan that I can think of. Who’s to blame, Robert or Morgan? Who cares, both are.
Back in March I remember sparing with my peers on the way forward; some spoke of armed confrontation with the rogue Zimbabwean establishment while others felt an honest and sincere belief in the Movement for Democratic Change; we would spar from our various internet locales through forums on Facebook and Blog Sites; long winding debates that were intellectual & passionate and on other occasions passionate but void of any intellect. Regardless of what was being presented or argued however, we remained observant and intriguingly engaged.
So what is the moral of this story? Like our Zimbabwean politicians & leaders, we literally and metaphorically sat at round tables engaged in debates as we pondered the right way forward; we professed the coming of change but yet upon reflection I realize we presented recycled ideologies & talking points; and so today we find ourselves in a cycle of political dysfunction that continuously repeats itself.
I know I am not the only person that felt that we should keep the pressure on our politicians and keep the discussion alive but at times we have become complacent with regards to remaining engaged in the Zimbabwean political process, if these politicians have failed on numerous occasions before, why trust them now; it’s time we re-engaged ourselves more poignantly, creatively & energetically to ensure that things move forward; it’s time we embrace our own destiny & not leave it in the hands of Robert & Morgan because the status quo has made us, intentionally or otherwise, reluctant but passive passengers on this Tenda Bus to Nowhere.
Sincerely yours,
A Flustered Passenger
