I’ve been following this UNITY proclamation with hope but wise reservations; Hope for the future Zimbabwe could now FORGE but reservation stemming from the simple realization that we’ve been here before - same place, different time & chapter but same key character moving the plot forward MUGABE. In 1987 ZANU and ZAPU signed the UNITY Accord, an alliance that was meant to propel Zimbabwe into prosperity and yet 21 years later, that unholy alliance has become the very Monster we have tried in vain to dispose.

We saw the righteous become the self-righteous as the incorruptible became corrupt and the law abiding became the unjust; we saw two entities that kept an eye on each other merge into one dominating force that ruled unchecked and unchallenged for decades. Indeed, what our nation’s history has taught me is to never put all our eggs in one basket; we did it with ZANU and faltered, we did it with the ZANU & ZAPU Accord and today we find ourselves trying to exorcise those demons; thus I am forced to be wary and alert with regards to the ZANU & MDC agreement because when we relax we create a false sense of comfort that allows the injustices of the past to consistently reappeared as the new establishment capitalizes on our complacency with evolved and more ingenious ways staying in power.

Thus, I am forced to now side with the outsider and underdog as I now consider MDC to be a part of the establishment and by default Makoni becomes the great equalizer in Zimbabwean politics and when he becomes a part of the establishment I will search again for another entity that helps sustain a balance because we've seen this movie before, a tale in which the humble David becomes the menacing Goliath.
