Water supply to Zimbabwe's capital cut off
To prevent the cholera epidemic to spread even further, the Zimbabwean government has decided to cut water supplies to the nation's capital Harare.
The decision was made after the authorities had ran out of chemicals to treat and purify the water supply in Harare, the epicenter of the water-borne disease. The aim is to prevent more infections.
According to the state-owned newspaper The Herald most part of Harare did not get water on Sunday.
According to new figures, over 425 people have died since the outbreak in August. The number is expected to rise due to poor sanitation worsted by the onset of the rainy season.
The epidemic comes on top of a political crisis and a collapsed economy.
It has the world's highest inflation rate, last estimated at 231 million per cent in July. About 80 per cent of Zimbabweans are living in poverty.
