NP Rank:
“You Know What? We’re Winning”
After we we speculated Monday night as to the identity of the true author of the Rockefeller-Snowe letter to ExxonMobil, I happened to look at the site-tracking meter which tells me a little bit about who happens drops by NN&V.
We had visitors.
Following the trail back to the origin of one particular visit, I
found none other than environmentaldefense.org. Environmental Defense
was named in the Taranto editorial as one of the organiztions aligned
against the global warming âdeniersâ. They are a determined group.
Indeed, their legislative point-person, Melissa Carey has boldly declared, â2007 is the year we need to start making law. â
âThe special interests who have tried to prevent global
warming action have used scare tactics, warning of huge economic costs.
They donât want Congress to understand that if we fight global warming
the smart way - by setting a national cap on pollution and creating
market incentives for industry to innovate - we not only cut emissions,
but we give businesses the opportunity and flexibility to do it
efficiently and at a long-term net cost savings.âAnd you know what? Weâre winning.â
Sounds a little bit like our letter-writer doesnât she.
I find it interesting that the same people who are most relieved to
hear new Sec-Def Gates say that âwe are not winningâ in Iraq are so
excited about the prospects of claiming victory, and ramming home this
legislation, the Climate Stewardship Act. And, although I half-jokingly
referred to the religious fervor of the global warming enthusiastists
as the âGAS Crowdâ (Gaiaist Apopcalyptic Syndrome), it is their arrogance
self-righteousness that they must not be questioned which makes me want
to push back and question them. And not only their science, but the
motives behind their apocalyptic conclusions as well.
Fred Krupp, GAS President, in a website blurb made this comment:
Like other Americans, we reviewed our priorities after the September 11 attacks on the United States. We concluded that our job is to preserve a world worth defending.
Unlike Mr. Krupp and the rest of the GAS Crowd, we also reviewed our
priorities after the September 11 attacks on the United States, and
concluded that our first job is to preserve life and liberty.
Without these, who will be left to preserve the world? In their blind
devotion to a cause, Krupp and the GAS Crowd endanger the very world
they claim to want to preserve.
