Young Texas Bluesicians Aren't All About SRV

First off, let me preface this entry with this; As far as Stevie Ray Vaughan and his music goes, I dig them both. A lot. I became hooked when I was a kid in Oak Cliff (a suburb of Dallas), going to the same high school a couple of years behind him. So this isn't all about SRV, but rather the perception that his shadow casts.

To many people, he was their introduction to the blues genre, just as many of us were snagged by British rock bands like the Rolling Stones or the Yardbirds, or Fleetwood Mac (who all covered blues songs extensively in their early years.  That's all good, but if there has been one negative thing about the whole SRV deal, it's those imitators who take it to a fanatical excess. I am not goind to call them names or disparage them much more than to say it isn't what I am into spending hours or any dollars on, but who knows, their collective hearts may all be in the right place, but if they keep multiplying like they have been, it can't be that much longer till we see the Flying SRV's making a cameo in a theater near you!

As I was recently converting some older bar-room blues footage into digital formats, this clip here made me sort of think out loud to the person across the room, "What I always like about Paul Size and Johnny Moeller's playing is that they weren't trying to be the next Stevie." She repied," Me too." I hope you agree (btw, it's a short minute and half or so clip).   chuck
