I have never been more embarrassed to be a Canadian:
OTTAWA – Protesters are accusing police of using undercover agents to provoke violent confrontations at the North American leaders' summit in Montebello, Que.Such accusations have been made before after similar demonstrations but this time the alleged "agents provocateurs" have been caught on camera.
A video, posted on YouTube, shows three young men, their faces masked by bandannas, mingling Monday with protesters in front of a line of police in riot gear. At least one of the masked men is holding a rock in his hand.

I remember similar allegations during the protests in NYC leading up to the invasion of Iraq, though it was more of a case of uniformed officers instigating protestors. I think, though, that it was just too cold to riot at the time...

mtippett, thanks for posting this. It is definitely an embarassing move on Canada's part. I wonder if the police were pressured by some of the visitors to beef up their attempts to quash protesters? If not--or even if so--it's a landmark time in Canadian history that shouldn't be ignored.
To interfere with the right to protest in such a manner is very un-Canadian, indeed. There is certainly a record of violence against protesters in this country (friends with scars from the Kananaskis G8 can confirm this) but this is a new level of involvement. It's another thing entirely to send in fake agitators; something infinitely more scary and Big Brother-ish is afoot there. I'm dismayed and frightened at the thought of this sort of thing becoming the norm on Canadian soil.

mtippett, Incredible story. Policing the police is an issue that crops up all over the place. We certainly have this kind of stuff happening here in New Zealand as well. The example here however is one of the most blatant and aggressive I've seen. Great video footage. Good stuff.

mtippett, that is nothing try coming to Miami to protest they arrest you before you even get to the protest.
and the cops don't cover their faces they want you to see their faces as they beat you down. the abilty to expose this is what is important. if you ever lose that then worry.
