"President Yudhoyono would introduce the initiative at a "Forestry Eight" meeting of countries that have tropical rain forests to be held in New York," presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal said here on Friday evening.

President Yudhoyono arrived in Sydney that evening to attend an APEC summit which is also attended by President Bush.

Dino said the issue was closely related to climate change problems.

He said President Yudhoyono in a meeting with Bush would also discuss his Coral Reef Triangle Initiative involving Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Timor Leste, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands, countries are rich in maritime resources.

"This is his initiative, considering that 60 percent of the coral reefs in the world are found in these regions. The maritime-resource rich regions are currently facing the threats of global warming," he said.
