Zoo animals feeling the heat

The heat meant it was a slow day at area zoos. Literally.

While humans may "run around and keep busy," said Lincoln Park Zoo spokeswoman Kelly McGrath, the animals are "not like us.''

"They're smarter than us: they just lay there," she said.

That is when the creatures aren't getting special, hot day treats. Seals and polar bears were given fish frozen inside blocks of ice, said McGrath.
